Richarlison's first goals for Tottenham helped them in their return to the Champions League with a 2-0 win over 10-man Olympique Marseille.
Tottenham, who missed out on the Champions league for the past two seasons, started slowly and lacked creativity to beat a very organized Marseille and in fact, it was the French side, who had the ball for long periods of the first-half.
However, three minutes into the second half., Chancel Mbemba was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity after a last-man challenge on Heung-Min Son.
From that point onwards, Tottenham dominated but still struggled to create any clear cut chances.
In Spurs' first shot on target, they went ahead. Summer signing Richarlison rose to head home Ivan Perisic's pinpoint cross in the 76th minute, scoring his first goal for Tottenham.
The Brazilian international added his second with another header, this time from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's cross to seal an important 2-0 win.
Antonio Conte's men share top spot in the group with Sporting Lisbon who beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0.
Next up, Tottenham will travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday and then they will fly to Portugal to face Sporting on Tuesday.
