The EFL have announced the winners of Player of the Month and Manager of the Month for August across all three divisions.
In the Championship, Hull City’s Óscar Estupiñán won the Player of the Month award while Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom clinched the Manager of the Month prize.
Estupiñán has had a superb start to life in English football. The summer signing from Portuguese side Vitória has been involved in eight league goals so far this season, scoring seven and assisting one. Only Erling Haaland has been more productive.
Heckingbottom’s team top the Championship with the Blades boss continuing to impress at Bramall Lane. The former Barnsley player and manager enjoys a superb record since being named the manager in November 2021. In fact, no one other Sheffield United boss has a better win ratio than Heckingbottom right now, with United having won 53.85% of their games under their manager.
7 Games. 14 Goals. 14 Points.

Moving to the other side of Sheffield, Wednesday defender Liam Palmer was named League One Player of the Month. As well as scoring twice in August, the defender also made his 350th appearance for the Owls.
This is the third League One POTM award a Wednesday player has won in a row after Barry Bannan won it in March and Lee Gregory in April – a new record.
Pompey boss Danny Cowley picked up the Manager of the Month award. Portsmouth remain undefeated in the league this season and won five of their six games in August. The award is Cowley’s second MOTM accolade after having been also honoured in November 2021.
Down in League Two, it’s no surprise to see Northampton Town’s Sam Hoskins getting the Player of the Month award after a scintillating start to the season.
Hoskins has already scored eight league goals this season, more than any other player in the EFL and is well on the way to surpassing his personal best for a season when the forward scored 13 goals for the Cobblers last year. Oh, and we can’t forget to mention that Hoskins scored directly from a corner in stoppage time either…

Finally, Richie Wellens deservedly won the League Two Manager of the Month award doing a superb job at Leyton Orient. In five August league games, Wellens’ team won four and remain undefeated and top of the fourth tier. No one has scored more or conceded less than the O’s so far.
