Burnley returned to the top of the Championship after Jay Rodriguez scored a late penalty against Norwich City.
The Clarets were much the better team at Turf Moor but had to wait until the 83rd minute to break the deadlock.
A cross from the right struck the arm of Grant Hanley – who in the Norwich defender’s defence seemed to be trying his best to avoid having an outstretched arm.
Referee Tony Harrington pointed to the spot though and Jay Rodriguez stepped up to fire his penalty down the middle and past Angus Dunn. That’s the striker’s eighth of the season and the Burnley local is already on course to have his best goalscoring season in years.
While Burnley celebrate, Dean Smith has been left with a lot to ponder. His Norwich side looked like they were going to storm back into the Premier League after a super September but are now winless in their last six Championship games – a run that includes four defeats.
Smith’s team can get back on track when they host Stoke City this weekend while Burnley await the visit of Reading.
