Sheffield United’s 5-2 win at home to Burnley has closed things up at the top of the Championship after a bumper Saturday in the second tier.

The early kick-off was the big game of the weekend in the Championship. Burnley were 2-1 up at half-time at Bramall Lane but a scintillating second-half performance from the Blades saw them score four unanswered goals that changed the league’s complexion completely.

Burnley’s defeat was their first since August and reduces the Clarets' lead at the top of the table to just two points.

That’s because Blackburn took full advantage of Burnley’s defeat. Ben Brereton-Díaz scored the only goal of the game to give Rovers the three points – the Chile international’s ninth goal of the season.

Just behind Sheffield United in the table is fourth-placed Norwich City. The Canaries won 2-1 away to Rotherham United. Kenny McLean had opened the scoring for Norwich in the first half before Ollie Rathbone equalised in the 49th minute. However, the visitors restored their lead just a minute later through Aaron Ramsey – the Aston Villa player scoring his third goal in as many games.

Norwich’s win moves Queens Park Rangers down to fifth in the table. The Hoops were the victims of a resurgent West Bromwich Albion under new boss Carlos Corberán. Kyle Bartley scored the only goal to give the Baggies their second win in a row, although Corberán’s team are still in the relegation zone for now.

Rounding out the top six is Preston North End, who won 2-1 in Friday’s game away to Reading.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Coventry City moved up to 15th with a win away to Watford, Cardiff City were victorious at the Stadium of Light, and Swansea City only managed a 2-2 draw at home to Wigan Athletic.
