Surprisingly, the Saddlers went from the middle of August until the start of October without a single win – a run that included 12 games. However, Walsall are now undefeated in their last five games including a win over League One Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.
Walsall also have a devilish record in the league: 6 wins, 6 draws, 6 losses. That will change this weekend at home to Crawley Town.

The Citizens fell further behind Arsenal just before the start of the World Cup break with a surprise loss at home to Brentford. It’s the kind of result that Pep Guardiola will be hoping his team don’t come to regret at the end of the season.
City fans now have to wait 34 days before seeing their side in action once again.

Sheffield United were briefly at the top of the Championship table last Saturday until Burnley’s victory over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
The Blades recovered from their Yorkshire derby defeat to Rotherham United with a 1-0 victory over Cardiff City that saw them go three points off the top and two points ahead of third-placed Rovers.

The Gunners go into the international break on a high. Mikel Arteta’s team saw City lose to Brentford on Saturday before making no mistake away to Wolverhampton Wanderers later that evening – extending the gap at the top of the Premier League table to five points.
The only question that remains is can Arsenal keep this up for the second half of the season?

Burnley dominated against Blackburn Rovers at Turf Moor to retake the top spot in the Championship – a result that will delight all Clarets fans. Rovers did manage a single target and had Burnley’s finishing been better the result could have been even more one-sided.
At this point, it seems to be a question of who will be promoted alongside Burnley at the end of the season.

Alejandro Garnacho’s last minute winner over Fulham showed once again that Erik ten Hag has a potential superstar in the making at Old Trafford. The Red Devils finished the pre-World Cup stage of the season in fifth, three points behind Spurs in fourth.
The only thing that could ruin the mood now is if one of their players delivered a bombshell of an interview with a disgraced journalist…

What a turnaround it’s been for Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City! From being a team that looked like no-hopers for a while, now the Foxes have won four of their last six games and kept five clean sheets in that period. Only Kevin de Bruyne has scored against Leicester since that defeat to Bournemouth over a month ago.
Leicester are now up to 13th in the table and put more pressure on David Moyes at West Ham after their 2-0 victory at the London Stadium.

Speaking of turnarounds, here’s Coventry City. The Sky Blues didn’t win a single game until October but have now recorded seven victories in their last nine games. They haven’t been easy games either with Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers, Watford, and most recently, QPR all tasting defeat to Coventry in recent weeks.
Mark Robins’ team have gone from the bottom of the Championship table to 11th place and are just two points behind sixth-placed Millwall.

The Magpies passed another test last weekend when they were much the better team against Chelsea in a 1-0 win. Chris Willock’s superb strike made the difference.
Of course, that result put Newcastle up to third in the Premier League table, just two points behind City and seven behind the league leaders. If Newcastle invest again in January they really could be a fearsome team for the established sides at the top.

The expectations were high for Stockport County when they earned promotion from the National League to League Two. However, the Hatters recorded just two wins until the start of October and it's only in recent weeks that they’ve really picked up their form.
Since losing to fellow promoted side Grimsby Town, Stockport are undefeated in seven games in all competitions having won six of them. Stockport won 2-1 against Newport County last weekend with Aaron Lewis’ goal for Newport being the only goal Dave Challinor’s team have conceded in that run of seven.
Stockport are now up to 12th in the League Two table but in this vein of form should see themselves climb further up soon.
