Bouncing after an emphatic 6-2 win over Iran, England now face the United States in their second Group B game of the 2022 World Cup at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on Friday.
England have won eight of their 11 previous meetings with the USA across all competitions, scoring 39 goals in the process. Promising, but...the Three Lions have failed to beat the Americans on the only two occasions they have met in a World Cup. In 1950, the USA pulled off a famous giantkilling to humble the 'inventors of the game' and more recently in 2010, England couldn't do better than a 1-1 draw in South Africa.
Gregg Berhalter's men failed to beat Wales in their opening group game and the pressure is on them to pick up at least a point to keep their hopes of qualifying for the last 16 alive. Gareth Southgate's side, meanwhile, will want to maintain the momentum built by their win over Iran. So, a great clash appears to be in store!
If your enthusiasm for World Cup related 'content' isn't flagging, it's time to have a crack at our quiz! Your task this week is to name the 15 Americans to clock up most appearances in the Premier League...
Good luck!
