Barcelona came from 2-0 down to defeat Wolfsburg 3-2 and lift the Champions League in Eindhoven.
The Catalan side were the favourites going into this but had a disastrous start to the game when England’s Lucy Bronze was robbed by Ewa Pajor, with the competition’s top scorer going on to finish with a superb curling effort.
For Barça, it must have a flashback to last year’s final when Lyon’s Amandine Henry scored a very similar effort. The only difference was that this goal was even early with Pajor’s strike coming in the fourth minute.
Five minutes into the second half, Barcelona were level. Good play by Caroline Graham Hansen on the right set Patricia Guijarro to pull one back in the 48th minute.
Then just two minutes later, Guijarro was at it again – heading in Aitana Bonmatí’s ball to make it 2-2 with 40 minutes left to play.
For all of Wolfsburg’s great defensive work, a moment of madness cost them the game. The She-Wolves just couldn’t clear the lines with one attempted clearance coming off another player.
Barcelona were able to take full advantage as Fridolina Rolfö was on hand to convert from close range to make it 3-2 and complete the comeback.
Jonatan Giráldez’s team were able to hold onto their lead and claim their second Champions League crown with captain Alexia Putellas – who was an 89th-minute substitute – lifting the trophy.
