Tottenham Hotspur started their post-Harry Kane era with a 2-2 draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
In the early stages, Spurs controlled the ball possession, while Brentford aimed to apply high pressure and create challenges to the visitors' defensive line.
The game's first opportunity arrived after 10 minutes and resulted in a goal when Cristian Romero headed in James Maddison's skillfully delivered free-kick.
Brentford's first shot on target came through Yoane Wissa's overhead kick at the 17-minute mark, but it was comfortably saved by Guglielmo Vicario.
A potential penalty situation appeared for Brentford in the 23rd minute when Son Heung-min brought Mathias Jensen down inside the box. Initially, the game continued, but the referee was directed to the video monitor by VAR advice, leading to a penalty being awarded to the hosts.
In the absence of Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo stepped up and slotted the ball into the net with a composed finish.
Brentford then turned the game around in the 36th minute, as Wissa's shot deflected into the net after Micky van de Ven's leg inadvertently redirected the ball past his own goalkeeper.
Spurs took control of the game towards the end of the first half and in added time, Emerson equalised for the visitors with a low strike from just outside the box.
The second half was quieter and largely under Spurs' control. Son Heung-min and Richarlison tested Mark Flekken with sharp shots, but they couldn't break the deadlock.
Ange Postecoglou's men intensified their pressure in the latter stages, yet there was no last-minute excitement in West London and the teams shared points.
Spurs will resume their league campaign by hosting Manchester United next Saturday, while Brentford will visit Fulham on the same afternoon.
