Mauricio Pochettino's return to the Premier League with Chelsea ended in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Action: Liverpool started the game more brightly and took the lead after 18 minutes as Luis Diaz skillfully scored from a fantastic pass by Mo Salah.
The Merseysiders believed they had extended their lead a little over 10 minutes later, but Salah was deemed to be in an offside position before he placed the ball past debutant goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Chelseareacted pretty well and levelled in the 37th minute after the Reds struggled to clear a corner, leading to debutant Axel Disasi smoothly putting the ball into the net from close range following a looping header by Ben Chilwell.
Just two minutes after that, Chilwell received a precisely threaded pass from Enzo Fernandez in a good position and the left-back managed to get past Alisson Becker and slotted the ball into the net, but VAR ruled him offside.
Throughout much of the second half, Chelsea kept Liverpool confined to their own half. Nicolas Jackson came close to giving Chelsea the lead, breezing past Ibrahima Konate for speed but shooting straight at Alisson.
In the dying moments of stoppage time, Mykhailo Mudryk had one final chance as he was played through on goal, but despite getting the ball around the Brazilian goalkeeper, he couldn't catch up with it as the hosts had to settle for a point for the Premier League opener.
Next up, Liverpool host Bournemouth on Saturday while Chelsea visit West Ham on Sunday.
