Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United battled to an enjoyable 2-2 draw at Molineux.
It was the visitors who took the lead during a rainy game in Wolverhampton with the opener coming as a result of José Sá’s mistake
The Portuguese goalkeeper came to intercept a cross but let it slip out of the hands with Callum Wilson eventually able to improvise a finish.
The home side levelled the scoring in the 36th minute. Pedro Neto’s effort earned his side a corner with the winger swinging a ball that Mario Lemina threw himself at to head past Nick Pope.
There was controversy just before half-time when Anthony Taylor penalised Hwang Hee-chan for a foul on Fabian Schär in the Wolves penalty area.
VAR checked the decision, which looked soft at best but decided to stay with the on-field decision. Wilson converted the resulting spot-kick to make it 2-1 to the Magpies and bag his seventh goal of the season so far.
Wolves will have felt aggrieved at the decision and wanted a penalty themselves moments later for a potential Bruno Guimarães handball although the right decision was made.
The home side levelled things up midway through the second half when Wolves were first to collect the ball after Nick Pope’s punch clear. Toti Gomes was then able to thread a pass through to Hwang who did well to find space and finish low past Pope.
Gary O’Neil’s team were worthy of their equaliser but were dealt a blow just minutes later when Pedro Neto – who has been in sensational form early this season – pulled up with what looked like a thigh injury.
The 23-year-old eventually had to be taken off on a stretcher with fans no doubt hoping for a swift return for an exciting player who has had terrible luck with injuries.
In the end, neither side truly went all out to grab a later winner with the points shared in a dramatic game.
