Wolves edge out Fulham at Molineux

Goals from defenders Rayan Air-Nouri and Nelson Semedo wrapped up three points for Wolves on Saturday, as Gary O'Neil's side recorded a 2-1 win over Fulham at Molineux - Alex Iwobo netting a late consolation for the visitors.

The Action: Both sides enjoyed periods of controlled possession in the opening stages, but clear-cut chances were at a premium.

The hosts' rhythm was disrupted early on by an off-the-ball injury to midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who was replaced by Man City loanee Tommy Doyle.

Although the game was fairly level on the balance of play, the visitors posed the greater attacking threat and Harry Wilson screwed wide on 26 minutes after Alex Iwobi had released the Wales international.

Fulham then had another big chance to take the lead came with half-time approaching, and Cottagers centre-half Tosin Adarabioyo was left kicking himself. A recycled short corner led to Harrison Reed finding space with an intelligent overlap and the midfielder's cross found centre-back Adarabioyo eight yards out - only for the defender to fire against the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Wolves' injury woes deepened on the stroke of the half-time when their danger man Pedro Neto pulled up in a foot race with Antonee Robinson, all the indications being that he had tweaked his hamstring.

      Half-time: Wolves 0-0 Fulham

Five minutes into the second-half - after Wilson had again gone close for the Cottagers - the game had the goal it had lacked.

A debatable free-kick awarded against Fulham's Reed was swung into the box by the hosts and when Toti Gomes latched onto the ball near the byline he had the relatively simple task of squaring to the waiting Rayan Ait-Nouri, who fired high into the net.

The game was in the balance for a short period after Wolves' opener, but a second for the hosts midway through the second period effectively settled the contest.

A break down Wolves' left saw the ball worked to Nelson Semedo, and the former Benfica and Barcelona defender shot home from the edge of the box albeit with the help of a huge deflection off Fulham sub Tom Cairney.

Visibly frustrated by the negative turn their afternoon had taken, Fulham looked for a way back into the game, but Jose Sá pulled off two excellent saves in the latter stages to keep the Londoners at bay.

Portuguese keeper Sá could do nothing, however, to prevent Iwobi netting a consolation for the visitors with the last kick of the game - the former Everton man athletically diverting a shot into the net from close range.

      xG: Wolves (0.58) 2-1 (2.20) Fulham

Great win for @Wolves! Defence stepping up with those goals from Air-Nouri and Semedo Tough luck for @Fulham, Adarabioyo will be disappointed with that missed chance.

As a Wolves fan, I'm ecstatic with the result today! Both Rayan Air-Nouri and Nelson Semedo have been immense for us at the back, scoring crucial goals to secure the win. Although Fulham put up a tough fight, our defense held strong and we were able to come out on top. Sadly, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde's injury did disrupt our rhythm, but the introduction of Tommy Doyle proved to be a great decision. Looking forward to future matches,
