According to the self-proclaimed football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich are close to an agreement over the appointment of Ralf Rangnick.
The former interim boss of Manchester United discussed the fact that Bayern had approached him over the role recently and that he would be interested but it now appears that the German will takeover from Thomas Tuchel.
The 65-year-old is currently in charge of the Austrian national team, who have significantly improved under his management, ahead of UEFA EURO 2024 this summer. They go into the tournament as one of the standout so-called ‘dark horses’ in a group alongside France, the Netherlands and Poland.
It has been reported that Bayern and Rangnick have been locked in fairly detailed negotiations and discussions have included potential incomings and outgoings for this summer’s transfer window.
It has also been reported by ESPN journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft that an announcement over Rangnick could come as soon as this week ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
One of the key details that it is suggested is still to be ironed out would be a compensation fee from Bayern Munich to the Austrian FA and it is also not yet understood if Rangnick will take the Bayern job before or after the UEFA European Championships.
There is an expectation that Rangnick will take Austria through the summer before moving to Bavaria. Bayern have approached but been rejected by both former player Xabi Alonso, who will remain without Bayer Leverkusen, and former coach Julian Nagelsmann, who has signed a new deal as Germany manager.
