Miguel Almirón’s goal earned Newcastle United a point in Bournemouth after Marcos Senesi had opened the scoring for the hosts.
It wasn’t a classic at the Vitality Stadium with both teams lacking in creativity during a low-quality, stop-start game.
Newcastle United had much of the ball early on in the game and a series of corners but it was a Bournemouth corner that opened the scoring.
With half an hour gone, Jaidon Anthony sent in a corner that was headed on by Dango Ouattara into the path of Marcos Sensei to tap the ball past Nick Pope from close range.
Bournemouth weren’t able to take that lead into the break as just before half-time Newcastle levelled the score after some good work on the left led to Sean Longstaff being through on goal. Neto did well to stop Longstaff’s shot but the ball bounced favourably to Miguel Almirón who kept his cool to equalise.
In truth, there was little to talk about in the second half until late on although Allan Saint-Maximin had to be replaced due to injury – a concern for Eddie Howe who also had to replace Chris Willock with Anthony Gordon midway through the first period.
Dominic Solanke had a golden opportunity to get a 90th-minute winner for his side. Hamed Traorè had won the ball on the right and put in a low cross that Antoine Semenyo dummied leaving Solanke to flick the ball into what would have been an empty net had Kieran Trippier not been there to clear off the line.
Overall, a draw was probably a fair result based on the run of play. Although Newcastle had plenty of the ball they created few clear chances. Bournemouth meanwhile battled well but remain in the relegation zone.
