Burnley celebrated their return to the Premier League in style, earning a convincing 2-0 victory over second-placed Sheffield United at Turf Moor.
Despite a bright start from the Blades, their fortunes quickly changed as they were reduced to ten men just 16 minutes into the game when goalkeeper Wes Foderingham was shown a red card for bringing down Nathan Tella just outside the box.
After Foderingham's departure, Sheffield United put up a brave fight in the first half, but Burnley's persistence finally paid off in the second half.
On the hour mark, substitute Jon Gudmundsson found the back of the net with a first-time strike from Tella's smart header.
Just 10 minutes later, the Iceland international doubled his tally with a fine finish from close range to secure all three points for the hosts.
The result means Burnley extended their lead at the top to 14 points over Sheffield United, who still have a five-point cushion and a game in hand on third-placed Luton.
Having already secured promotion, the Clarets are now within touching distance of the title, needing just five more points from their final six games to secure the championship.
