Critchley's Tangerines continue play-off march

With plenty of games in hand and an impressive eight-game unbeaten run, Blackpool looked to follow up on their big win against Oxford at the weekend with an even bigger victory against second-placed Peterborough in League One tonight.

The Action: Things couldn’t have possibly started any better for Blackpool, when, inside the first minute, they stole the ball off of Peterborough, with Jerry Yates wrestling it out of his feet before firing a stunning laser-like shot past Christy Pym.

The Posh quickly found their way back into the game and dominated the half, finally getting their reward when Joe Ward brilliantly volleyed home a far-post Sam Szmodic’s cross for an injury-time equaliser.

Blackpool struck back though, with an absolutely chaotic second-half corner leading to a handball, with Yates bagging his second from the spot in the 52nd minute, and moments later it was game over when a short corner was worked back to Luke Garbutt, who’s long-ranger glanced off a defender and in.

The Big Picture: Despite there being 10 points between the teams, these are two sides travelling in very different directions, with Blackpool now in the top six with up to three games in hand of the five above, while Peterborough could soon lose their automatic promotion spot to Sunderland.

Man of the Match: One of the easiest calls of the season, Yates was in absolutely sublime form on course to netting his 12th and 13th league goals of the season.

Memorable Moment: Yates’ first summed up the confidence running through this Blackpool side, instantly taking the game to their opponents with only seconds gone.
