Gabriel’s header gave Arsenal their fourth win out of four games after earlier making the mistake that gave Fulham the lead.
Action: Arsenal were without Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey due to injury with Mohamed Elneny and Kieran Tierney taking their places in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Marco Silva made just one change with Neeskens Kebano starting ahead of Jay Stansfield.
Arsenal were the better team in the first half but Fulham showed the same grit and determination that they have done so far this season.
Bukayo Saka had the best chance of the half for the Gunners but former teammate Bernd Leno was on hand to deny the England international.
Mikel Arteta’s team had won all three of their Premier League games coming into this and that record looked under threat in the 56th minute when Aleksandar Mitrovic took advantage of Gabriel’s poor control to steal the ball and finish past Aaron Ramsdale.
The Gunners pressure mounted and eventually, they took the lead in the 85th minute. A corner in from Gabriel Martinelli found Gabriel who was able to stab the ball home from close range to make up for his earlier mistake.
Fulham did have one chance to draw level late on but Ramsdale was able to get into the way of Trevor Chalobah’s shot.
Overall, it was a deserved win for the home team who keep their spot at the top of the table with 12 points from a possible 12.
Man of the Match: There may have been some luck in Martin Odegaard’s leveller but the Arsenal captain gave another superb display. The 23-year-old was crucial to everything that the Gunners created and led by example.
Stat of the Day: This is the first time Arsenal have won their opening four Premier League goals since the 2004/05 season when the North London team finished second in the league.
