Gunners stay top after Wolves win

Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard were on target for Arsenal, as the Gunners extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points with a 2-1 win over Wolves at the Emirates on Saturday.

The Gunners played some champagne football in the opening 45, and were two goals up after just 13 minutes thanks to fantastic goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Two nil up at the break, the hosts dominated for a long periods, but Wolves striker Matheus Cunha grabbed a goal back for Gary O'Neil's side to make the latter stages a tense affair for Mikel Arteta's side.

The Action: Arsenal entered the contest on the back of a thumping 6-0 win over Lens in the Champions League midweek, and confidence certainly didn't seem a problem in the opening stages at the Emirates.

The Gunners stroked the ball around with aplomb, but Wolves showed an early intent to press their hosts to make life difficult.

After just 6 minutes, however, Mikel Arteta's side were ahead thanks to a wonderfully-worked goal. Bukayo Saka started and finished a move, also featuring Gabriel Jesus and Takehiro Tomiyasu, to blast the ball home past José Sa. A VAR review ensued, but the decision to award a goal was upheld.

Wolves needed to regroup, but they found themselves two down after 13 minutes. Forward Jesus was again heavily involved, as his one-two with Oleksandr Zinchenko allowed the Ukrainian to cut the ball back to captain Martin Odegaard, who made no mistake.

The afternoon was not panning out well for the visiting Midlanders and they were forced into a goalkeeping change shortly afterwards, as Sá limped off to be replaced by Daniel Bentley.

Arsenal were looking electric in attack, but they took their foot off the pedal slightly given their two-goal cushion. In fact, Wolves almost halved their deficit on the stroke of half-time when Hwang-Hee Chan latched onto a long ball, only for David Raya to read the danger and intervene.

      Half-time: Arsenal 2-0 Wolves

The Gunners emerged from the break with a spring still in their stride and they continued to dominate without hitting the heights of their opening 15 minutes, Leandro Trossard the next to try his luck with a long range drive that flew over.

England winger Saka was a handful all afternoon for the league leaders and his curler midway through the half just cleared the crossbar as Arsenal searched for a third goal to kill the contest.

There was a twist in the tale, however, as Wolves grabbed a goal back as a mix-up at the back between Arsenal pair Zinchenko and William Saliba allowed Matheus Cunha to finish clinically.

The stage was set for a tense finish, although Arsenal hit the post through Eddie Nketiah after a fantastic through ball from Odegaard.

Wolves pushed for a leveller, but Arsenal held firm despite their best efforts to extend their lead at the top of the table to four points.

Burnley thump Blades, as Brentford beat Hatters

In the first of two other 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League, Vincent Kompany's Burnley enjoyed a very good afternoon in their relegation six-pointer against Sheffield United at Turf Moor.

The Clarets never looked back after Jay Rodriguez gave them an early lead with Henrik Braun Larsen doubling their lead before the break.

The visitors had forward Oli McBurnie sent off for two yellows in first-half injury time and they were dispatched in the second half with Burnley netting three further goals to seal a thumping 5-0 win against the beleaguered Blades.

Elsewhere, Brentford recorded a hard-fought 3-1 win over Luton at the Gtech Community Stadium. After a goal-less first half, Brentford took the lead through Neal Maupay and doubled their advantage soon afterwards after Ben Mee turned in from a corner.

Luton clawed one back courtesy of Jacob Brown's strike, but the hosts responded well to seal victory through a Shandon Baptiste strike.

Disappointing to only get a 2-1 win after dominating the game, but we'll take it! Congrats to Saka and Odegaard for the goals!

But it was all to no avail, with Saka opening the scoring in the ninth minute after latching onto a marvellous through ball from Nicolas Pepe.
