The FIFA Best Men's Player Award for 2023 will see a competition among Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland.
FIFA revealed the shortlist on Thursday, consisting of the same top three candidates as the Ballon d'Or prize, which Messi secured in October.
Although the Ballon d'Or voting considered the 2022 World Cup, where Messi's Argentina emerged victorious, Messi had already received his seventh FIFA award in February for his World Cup performances in Qatar.
The Women's Best Player shortlist showcases two 2023 World Cup champions, Aitana Bonmatí and Jenni Hermoso of Spain, along with Linda Caicedo of Colombia.
The time frame for the Men's Awards spans from December 19, 2022, to August 20, 2023, while the Women's Awards consider performances from August 1, 2022, to August 20, 2023,
The Men's Award exclude the period of the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar between November and December 2022.
The award ceremony is set to take place on January 15, 2024, in London, England.
