Jarrod Bowen scored with the last kick of the game after sixth-tier Kidderminster Harriers gave a determined performance against West Ham United and were within seconds of a massive cup shock.
Alex Penny gave Kidderminster the lead with the home side surprising their more illustrious opposition. The Harriers defender getting onto a loose ball and beating Alphonse Aréola.
West Ham were getting desperate as time went on – that desperation no more obvious than Andriy Yarmolenko’s embarrassing dive.
But it was the substitute who eventually made the difference in the 91st minute. Declan Rice forcing his way through the Kidderminster defence and firing a shot that gave Luke Simpson no chance.
It was a harsh moment for Russ Penn’s team who deserved to win the game. But there was more to come.
Kidderminster survived 30 minutes of extra time until with what was almost the last kick of the game Jarrod Bowen slotted home into an empty net from Aaron Cresswell’s pass.
Despite that the National League North side can be proud of their effort in front of their own fans while West Ham go through and will expect to give a far better performance in the next round.
