Leicester City's Premier League-winning captain Wes Morgan is to retire at the end of the current campaign.

The Nottingham-born centre-half joined the Foxes in 2011/12 and was part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League from the Championship in 2013/14.

He went on to play every minute of Leicester's astounding 2015/16 Premier League title success, memorably scoring a crucial equaliser against Manchester United at Old Trafford during the Foxes' title run-in.

Morgan was also a late substitute in last Saturday's FA Cup final win over Chelsea.

The 37-year-old was out of contract in the summer and has now announced his decision to retire - with another 2015/16 Premier League winner Christian Fuchs also heading for the exit at the King Power Stadium.

Morgan could make his final - and potentially 324th - appearance for Leicester in their must-win clash against Tottenham this coming Sunday, as the Foxes look to clinch a top-four finish and secure Champions League qualification.

Speaking in relation to Morgan's retirement, Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: "Wes has been one of Leicester City's greatest servants, leading the team through the club's most successful era and helping to set the standards that have pushed the club forward.

"A big brother to everyone he has played with, a strong representative of the squad and a valuable source of counsel to managers and senior executives in the club, his contribution has been enormous."

Morgan's career spanned the top four divisions of English football and he made over 750 appearances. The imposing defender was named in the Football League's Team of the Decade, the Championship Team of the Year on three occasions and the PFA Team of the Year in 2015/16.
