Tottenham Hotspur’s good form continued after a 2-0 win away to Bournemouth with James Maddison scoring his first goal for the club.
Ange Postecoglou made no changes from the team that defeated Manchester United last time out while Tyler Adams was not yet ready to feature for the Cherries with Justin Kluivert making his first start for the club.
It was an enjoyable game between two fluid teams that weren’t afraid to leave themselves open at the back.
Spurs took the lead in the 17th minute when Pape Sarr threaded a ball through for James Maddison with the midfielder able to calmly slot the ball past Neto to score his first goal for the club.
The biggest difference between the two teams was the quality going forward. While Bournemouth did find themselves in good positions they couldn’t find the killer ball. Spurs meanwhile always looked far more dangerous on the attack.
The visitors doubled their lead midway through the second half with another well-worked goal that ended with Destiny Udogie at full stretch to stop the ball from going over the byline and pulling back into the path of Dejan Kulusevski.
Despite that two-goal lead, Spurs were lucky to avoid being brought down to ten men on two occasions during the game. The first, and arguably most obvious, was after a dangerous-looking scissor tackle from Cristián Romero that not only didn’t get checked by VAR but didn’t get called for a foul.
Ivan Perisic was also lucky to get away with a yellow and survive a VAR check when he shoved Max Aarons in the face while trying to escape with the ball.
Still, it was a deserved victory overall for Tottenham who are enjoying life under their new manager.
