Manchester United have been linked with a number of left-backs to cover the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
With Shaw and Malacia both out with injuries and Brandon Williams away on loan, Erik ten Hag elected to start with Diogo Dalot at left-back against Nottingham Forest ahead of youngster Álvaro Fernández.
The length of Shaw’s injury is unknown but with Malacia having missed pre-season, United are looking to bring someone in to fill the void – especially the aforementioned Fernández linked with a loan move to Granada.
The Red Devils have been linked with several players in recent days including Brentford’s Rico Henry – although the Bees would be unlikely to sell or loan the player without significant compensation.
United have also been linked to three Spanish defenders. Among those is former Chelsea man Marcos Alonso, who joined Barcelona from Chelsea last summer on a free transfer. The Catalan giants’ financial issues have been well-publicised in recent times and may consider letting the player leave.
Sergio Reguilón and Marc Cucurella of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea respectively are other names that have been referenced. Reguilón spent last season on loan at Atlético Madrid and presents a more financially viable option than Cucurella who made his big-money move to the Blues from Brighton just last year.
