Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar will be out for up to four months, ruling the Brazilian out until next season.
Neymar picked up the injury during PSG’s dramatic 4-3 win over Lille in February but won’t be able to return for the Parisians this season with the club confirming that the player will require surgery.
The 31-year-old had played 29 games for his club in all competitions this season, scoring 18 and assisting 16.
In a statement, PSG confirmed that Neymar “has sustained a number of instances of instability in his right ankle in recent years. Following his latest sprain on 20 February, the Paris Saint-Germain medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence.”
Neymar’s surgery will take place in Qatar at the famous ASPETAR hospital.
Meanwhile, his club side will have to make do without him in Munich on Wednesday as they attempt to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Bayern. Manager Christophe Galtier will be restricted to ‘just’ the duo of Lionel Messi and PSG’s new all-time top scorer, Kylian Mbappé.
