Norway are bottom of Group A with two games played after failing to find a way past Switzerland.
The Norwegians’ preparations weren’t helped by Caroline Graham Hansen starting from the bench due to illness and then made worse when Ada Hegerberg picked up a groin injury in the warm-up which meant that Sophie Román Haug started in her place.
But it was Haug who had the best chance of a close first half but her header was saved by Gaëlle Thalmann.
The game opened up more in the second half with Thalmann needing to make saves early on first from a corner that resulted in Maren Mjelde having a close-range header.
Shortly after, Thalmann needed quick reactions to stop Emile Haavi’s effort from finding the corner of the goal.
Head coach Hege Riise brought Caroline Graham Hansen on in the 57th minute for Amalie Eikeland as the Norwegians pushed for a breakthrough.
But they weren’t able to break down a stern Swiss defence who, with the game finishing 0-0, top Group A on four points and will be hoping to guarantee their place in the knock-out stage when they play New Zealand next.
Norway know that they must win against the Philippines in their last game to give them any chance of progressing. Goals will certainly help the Gresshoppene have now gone four games without scoring at a major tournament.
Group A is still wide open after Switzerland and Norway finished goalless at Waikato Stadium.
