Reading have agreed a 6-point deduction with the EFL for financial breaches in the 2018/19 season. The club had a wage bill that year that was 194% of its turnover.
The Royals now move down to 19th in the Championship on 16 points, just four points above the drop zone and had previously been forced into a transfer embargo. That's why Reading have only signed free agents, including the arrival of Andy Carroll just this week.
Veljko Paunović's team face Nottingham Forest Nottingham Forest on Saturday at the Madejski Stadium as they hope to quickly recoup the points lost.
This is the second points deduction this week after Derby County were handed a further penalty yesterday.
