Reports: United agree Mount deal

According to self-proclaimed football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have finally agreed a deal to sign England midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Romano has reported that the two Premier League clubs have agreed a £60 million package deal with a £55 million fee and then £5 million in add-ons.

The Red Devils’ pursuit of the Chelsea man has been a long one and now it finally appears to be coming to a conclusion with Erik ten Hag close to getting his first signing of the summer over the line.

The 24 year-old England international has 36 caps for his country, scoring five goals, but missed the recent international break with The Three Lions due to injuries and a lack of game time in the second-half of the season at Chelsea, who finished in the bottom-half of the table.

Portsmouth-born Mount began his professional career with Chelsea in 2017 but spent two seasons out on loan. Firstly with Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie and then as a part of Frank Lampard’s Derby County side who reached the playoff final in 2019.

Since those two early loan deals, Mount has gone on to play 195 times for Chelsea, scoring 33 goals and was a crucial part of the Chelsea side that won the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. 

Manchester United are also reportedly keen on signing Internazionale goalkeeper Andre Onana in the coming weeks and they have also been heavily linked with a move for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Chelsea’s incoming business this window has been capped at one, in Christopher Nkunku, but he is set to be joined by Nicolas Jackson and Angelo Gabriel. The Londoners’ key concern this summer is to sell a lot of players and they have already made over £125 million on the departures of Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy and Kai Havertz. Now, Mount is set to join Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech in leaving Stamford Bridge in the coming days.
