Brighton & Hove Albion handed Manchester United their third defeat of the season after a 3-1 win at Old Trafford.
It’s been a chaotic time for United off the pitch and initially, it looked like they would produce the goods on it, Marcus Rashford forced Jason Steele into a save early on after a mazy run.
However, it was a familiar face who opened the scoring for Roberto De Zerbi’s team. Danny Welbeck started the move from deep before arriving late and unmarked into the box to convert Simon Adingra’s cross.
United thought they equalised in the 40th minute when Rasmus Hojlund tapped in for what looked like his first goal for the club. However, a VAR check ruled that Rashford’s pull back had gone over the by-line before it reached the Danish striker.
Erik ten Hag’s team may feel aggrieved to go in at the break a goal down but they were well beaten in the second half.
Pascal Gross, who seems to have developed a habit of scoring against Manchester United, doubled the Seagulls’ lead early into the second half with a low drive from outside the area.
Hannibal Mejbri did pull one back for United soon after but the home team couldn’t drag their way back into the game while Ansu Fati came close to making it 4-1 late on.
It was a professional performance from Brighton who managed to survive the early pressure to punish their opponents going forward.
For Manchester United, things aren’t looking good on or off the pitch right now.
