Jamie Vardy scored twice as Leicester City wrapped up the 2023/24 Championship title in style away to Preston North End.

Enzo Maresca's team needed to win at Deepdale to seal the title and they did so with ease.

Vardy has started just 17 games for his side this season but his minutes have been managed to get the most out of the veteran.

The striker gave his side the lead in the 36th minute with a scooped effort into the corner after a rapid and direct Leicester move.

Just seven minutes after the break Vardy struck again. This one came from a marauding run from Wout Faes with the defender's effort bouncing off the post.

It was Vardy who was the only player to react to the rebound and the 37-year-old seemed to relish the opportunity to leather the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

From that point on the celebrations could really begin for Leicester but there was still time for one more goal.

This time it was Fatawu Issahaku who provided a superb assist as he gave the Preston defence plenty of problems. The winger's cross found Kasey McAteer with a free header about six yards out to head the ball into the net.

"It's unbelievable," Vardy said after the game. "We knew it was going to be a tough game but we got the job done. Celebrating with the fans is great.

"How could you not love scoring goals, especially the second one, scoring in front of the fans – you can't get a better feeling than that.

"We had a couple of off games and we needed to get back to doing what we were doing. We had a talk between us and you've seen since it's paid off. We knuckled down and came out firing."

Leicester still have one more game to play on the final weekend of the Championship season before they can fully focus on the Premier League next season as the Foxes host Blackburn Rovers.

Wow, what a performance from Vardy! He may be getting older but he's still got it. Proud to be a Leicester fan! Disappointed for Preston though, tough game for them.

As a Leicester City fan, I couldn't be more satisfied with Vardy's performance in this Championship title-clinching game. He may be a veteran, but he continues to prove his worth on the pitch with his clinical finishing and relentless energy. Well done, Jamie!

Great performance by Vardy and the rest of the team! As a fan of Leicester City, I am overjoyed to see us win the Championship title in such a dominant fashion. Vardy's two goals were a testament to his skill and experience, and it's clear that he has been managed well this season to ensure he can still make a significant impact for the team. Looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in the Premier League next season!
