This is a real blockbuster long weekend in the WSL with two derbies and a potentially pivotal clash between first and third.

Playmaker guides you through the action, beginning with tomorrow night’s local derby...

Everton v Liverpool

The Reds will be looking for revenge after Everton came to Anfield earlier in the season and won 3-0. Matt Beard will be hoping his team can do a similar thing when they visit Goodison Park. Last time out, Liverpool were victorious at home to Tottenham Hotspur – a result that cost Spurs manager Rehanne Skinner her job.

While the Toffees would be considered favourites on home turf, they’re winless in their last four games in all competitions having only managed a goalless draw against bottom-of-the-league Leicester City in their last game.

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal

Spurs have never won against Arsenal in the women’s game and were soundly defeated 4-0 at the Emirates Stadium back in September. It’s difficult to see this going any other way although Tottenham did seal their first league win since October last week when Vicky Jepson’s team won 1-0 at home to Leicester City through Beth England’s goal.

The Gunners meanwhile were left unhappy after their narrow defeat to Bayern in the Champions League midweek with Jonas Eidevall unhappy with the officiating.

This is the start of a tough run for Arsenal who after this game will face Bayern again in the second leg before facing both Manchester clubs.

Manchester United v West Ham United

Marc Skinner’s team return to Old Trafford for the visit of West Ham United. The Red Devils bounced back from defeat to Chelsea with a 3-1 FA Cup win over Lewes to book a semi-final date with Brighton in April.

It’s going to be a tough trip up north for the Hammers who are winless in their last five – a run that includes three defeats. Paul Konchesky will also remember that when the two teams faced in London earlier in the season they lost 2-0 at home to Manchester United.

Sunday

Manchester City v Chelsea

A potentially huge game in the title race this season. Manchester City’s momentum took a bit of a hit last weekend when they were eliminated from the FA Cup by Aston Villa but the Citizens are still on fire in the league after shaking off a poor start to the season. It didn’t help that City played Chelsea in their second game of the season where they lost 2-0 after goals from Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde.

Of course, it won’t be easy against league-leaders Chelsea who went to European champions Lyon on Wednesday night and picked a 1-0 win in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Could tiredness be an issue for Emma Hayes’ team after their midweek trip? And will Millie Bright be fit after going off injured in France? Regardless, the outcome of this one will help decide where the WSL trophy will end up this season.

Reading v Brighton & Hove Albion

A big game at the bottom of the table in what you would describe as a classic ‘six pointer’. Both sides are at risk of dropping down to the Championship next season but a win here would massively ease those fears.

The Royals were knocked out of the FA Cup last time out by Chelsea as would be expected although they did claim a big win earlier in the month at home to West Ham United. Meanwhile, the Seagulls fared better in the cup, booking a semi-final date with Manchester United after defeating Birmingham City.

Brighton were also the victors in the reverse fixture with a 2-1 victory at home.

Aston Villa v Leicester City

Rachel Daly’s extra-time goal gave Aston Villa the win in the FA Cup over Manchester City to set up a semi-final with Chelsea not long after facing the Blues in the league. But Carla Ward won’t be looking that far forward yet, her team will host Leicester City – a game that Villa won 2-0 when the two teams last met.

The Foxes slipped to a narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their last league game but there’s still hope for survival. Leicester City’s performances have been better in recent weeks but picking up points against the likes of Aston Villa will be vital from now until the end of the season.
