This is a real blockbuster long weekend in the WSL with two derbies and a potentially pivotal clash between first and third.
Playmaker guides you through the action, beginning with tomorrow night’s local derby...
Everton v Liverpool
While the Toffees would be considered favourites on home turf, they’re winless in their last four games in all competitions having only managed a goalless draw against bottom-of-the-league Leicester City in their last game.
Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal
The Gunners meanwhile were left unhappy after their narrow defeat to Bayern in the Champions League midweek with Jonas Eidevall unhappy with the officiating.
This is the start of a tough run for Arsenal who after this game will face Bayern again in the second leg before facing both Manchester clubs.
Manchester United v West Ham United
Marc Skinner’s team return to Old Trafford for the visit of West Ham United. The Red Devils bounced back from defeat to Chelsea with a 3-1 FA Cup win over Lewes to book a semi-final date with Brighton in April.
It’s going to be a tough trip up north for the Hammers who are winless in their last five – a run that includes three defeats. Paul Konchesky will also remember that when the two teams faced in London earlier in the season they lost 2-0 at home to Manchester United.
Manchester City v Chelsea
Of course, it won’t be easy against league-leaders Chelsea who went to European champions Lyon on Wednesday night and picked a 1-0 win in their Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Could tiredness be an issue for Emma Hayes’ team after their midweek trip? And will Millie Bright be fit after going off injured in France? Regardless, the outcome of this one will help decide where the WSL trophy will end up this season.
Reading v Brighton & Hove Albion
A big game at the bottom of the table in what you would describe as a classic ‘six pointer’. Both sides are at risk of dropping down to the Championship next season but a win here would massively ease those fears.
The Royals were knocked out of the FA Cup last time out by Chelsea as would be expected although they did claim a big win earlier in the month at home to West Ham United. Meanwhile, the Seagulls fared better in the cup, booking a semi-final date with Manchester United after defeating Birmingham City.
Brighton were also the victors in the reverse fixture with a 2-1 victory at home.
Aston Villa v Leicester City
The Foxes slipped to a narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in their last league game but there’s still hope for survival. Leicester City’s performances have been better in recent weeks but picking up points against the likes of Aston Villa will be vital from now until the end of the season.
