Bayern Munich reached the Champions League quarter-finals as they have beaten Paris SG 2-0 at Allianz Arena, in the second leg of their Champions League tie in the round of 16, winning 3-0 on aggregate.
Action: PSG came into the match trailing 1-0 on aggregate from the first leg and without the services of Neymar, who was ruled out for the remainder of the season because of an ankle injury.
For the first minutes of the game, both teams were patient to find the right moment to attack, so the game was very tight in the opening stages.
The French side were forced into a change in the 36th minute, with skipper Marquinhos leaving the pitch through injury, which saw Nordi Mukiele enter for the visitors.
PSG applied more pressure in the latter stages in the first half and were close to score when goalkeeper Yann Sommer was caught on the ball by Achraf Hakimi in the box and the ball fell into the path of Vitinha, who with an open net, couldn’t get enough power on it and Mathias De Ligt made a tremendous goal-line clearance to save the day for the hosts.
Bayern thought they have took the lead early in the second half when Eric Choupo-Moting found the back of the net with a header, but it was disallowed for an offside on Thomas Muller.
However, Choupo-Moting finally got the breakthrough shortly after when Marco Verratti was dispossessed in a dangerous area by Leon Goretzka, who squared to the former Stock City player to tap home.
Sommer made a couple of fine saves midway the second half to keep Bayern’s two-goal aggregate cushion as Christophe Galtier's men started to create more chances to turn the tie around.
In the closing stages, substitute Serge Gnabry added the second on a ruthless counter-attack, started by Joao Cancelo, who slipped the ball through to the former Arsenal and West Brom man, who made no mistake in front of Donnarumma and sealed the spot for the Bavarians in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Big Picture: PSG's team of all-stars simply failed to live up to their hype and Bayern brushed them aside.
Not winning the group against Benfica proved to be crucial as the French champions were unseeded in the Last-16 draw, so they were likely to caught a heavyweight, and they did...
The German side look like a well-oiled machine as they are on the hunt for their seventh European Cup.
