Bayern take big step towards another Bundesliga title

Thomas Tuchel enjoyed a dream debut as Bayern Munich manager after an impressive win against Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.

Bayern took the lead in bizarre fashion when Dayot Upamecano put a long ball over the top that ran through to goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. But the Swiss had a terrible moment when he went to clear the ball but miskicked and had to suffer as he looked back and saw the ball trickle into the goal.

Kobel didn’t have much time to recover from that mistake as just five minutes later it was 2-0. A corner from the right was headed on by Matthijs de Ligt to Thomas Müller who, as ever, was in the right place at the right time to bundle the ball home.

It was 3-0 in the 23rd minute through another Dortmund mistake. Julian Ryerson lost the ball in his own half under pressure from Leroy Sané who cut inside and launched a shot that Kobel was able to stop but the ball fell to none other than Müller to extend Bayern’s lead.

As if things couldn’t get worse for Dortmund, just before the break Nico Schlotterbeck had to be replaced due to an injury with Mats Hummels.

Things didn’t get much better for Dortmund after the break, Sané had space to run into on the right and the forward put in a low pass that Kingsley Coman was able to latch on to and convert.

Bayern were dominant throughout the entire game but somehow Dortmund were able to score twice to save some of their blushes.

Sèrge Gnabry hadn’t been on the pitch long before he was guilty of impeding Jude Bellingham in the box allowing Emre Can to reliably dispatch a penalty that Yann Sommer couldn’t get to.

Then in stoppage time, Donyell Malen reduced it to 4-2 after a good link-up with Raphaël Guerreiro and a scuffed finish that was able to find the corner of the net.

It was a brilliant performance from the home side who now go two points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and it’s hard to see them slipping up now. Dortmund just can’t seem to get past a mental block of thinking it’s possible to beat Bayern.
