Newcastle humiliate Spurs to boost Champions League hopes

Newcastle United took a significant leap towards qualifying for the Champions League after they dominated Tottenham Hotspur in a 6-1 victory, scoring five goals in just 21 breathtaking minutes during the first half at St James' Park.

Newcastle United wasted no time in taking control of the game, with Jacob Murphy scoring just 70 seconds into the match after capitalizing on a rebound from Joelinton's shot that Hugo Lloris parried into his path. 

Joelinton then added to Tottenham's misery by rounding the hapless goalkeeper just five minutes later. 

Murphy left both the crowd and himself stunned with a stunning strike from 30 yards out, putting Newcastle ahead 3-0 in just nine minutes. 

Alexander Isak added to the onslaught with two quick goals, the first assisted by Joe Willock, leaving the home fans in disbelief. 

Although Spurs managed to steady themselves in the second half, Newcastle still held a commanding lead. 

Harry Kane scored a consolation goal for Tottenham just five minutes into the half, but it was short-lived as Callum Wilson, who came off the bench, scored Newcastle's sixth goal by sweeping in a pass from fellow substitute Miguel Almiron with 15 minutes left in the game. 

With the win, Newcastle moved above Manchester United into third place with 59 points, leaving fifth-placed Tottenham's hopes of a top-four finish all but dashed, as they now trail Newcastle by six points with one more game played.
