Liverpool staged a comeback to secure a 2-1 victory against Fulham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield, thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones.
Liverpool dominated the early stages, searching for an opening goal but struggled to create clear opportunities. Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota had attempts on goal, with Jota's shot missing the target.
However, Liverpool's defence was caught off guard when Willian scored for Fulham in the 19th minute, with Virgil van Dijk's weak header contributing to the goal.
As the first half progressed, Fulham gained confidence, with Antonee Robinson and Andreas Pereira testing Liverpool's back line, requiring saves from goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
In the second half, the Reds intensified their efforts to level the game, although this aggressive approach left them vulnerable at the back.
The visitors missed a couple of chances, including a narrow-angle shot from Bobby Decordova-Reid.
However, Liverpool remained resilient in the second half, and managed to level the scoreline with Curtis Jones' deflected strike in the 68th minute.
Shortly after, substitute Cody Gakpo capitalised on a Darwin Nunez assist and completed the comeback, igniting celebrations among the home fans.
Despite efforts to extend their lead, including a spectacular save by Leno to deny Nunez, the tie remains open as the teams gear up for the second leg at Craven Cottage on January 24th.
Next up, Jurgen Klopp's side will resume Premier League action on January 21, visiting Bournemouth, while Fulham is set to face Chelsea this Saturday.
