Managerless Leeds looking to 'exploit United's weaknesses'

Leeds United’s caretaker manager Michael Skubala says he wants to ‘exploit United’s weaknesses’ as the Whites prepare for a trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.

U21 coach Skubala is taking charge for the game alongside Paco Gallardo and former Manchester United assistant Chris Armas following the sacking of Jesse Marsch. But the trio may be in charge for just one game with the West Yorkshire club optimistic of a new manager being appointed before the two teams face off again at Elland Road this weekend.

Speaking to the press before the game, Skubala sounded optimistic about the game: “Nobody thinks it will be easy but as long as we are competitive and put on a good show on the pitch, that's the most we can ask for.

"We will set up a team that's competitive without the ball and set up a team that will try to exploit their weaknesses. We've been really good without the ball, on the front foot and aggressive and that's something we can't change.”

Skubala also paid tribute to Marsch, saying: "I saw Jesse before he left and he spoke to all the staff, that [what he said] is personal. The situation is very hard for the club and Jesse. He did a great job, he tried to build a team with a way of playing but ultimately the board decided they didn’t think he was getting enough points and it's a points-based industry.

"Everybody that has to leave a club is disappointed. It's a disappointing time for Jesse. He was very professional and very caring to the staff and said his goodbyes in a very professional manner."

Leeds will have the benefit of Manchester United being without suspended midfielder Casemiro with Erik ten Hag confirming that the club won’t be appealing his red card in Saturday’s 2-1 over Crystal Palace. 

The Red Devils will also be without Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, and winger Anthony due to injury. Meanwhile Christian Erisken and Donny van de Beek are long-term absences.
