Pym out for remainder of the season

Peterborough United goalkeeper Christy Pym has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a muscular injury.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper had played every minute of Posh's League One campaign this season, but was injured during Easter Monday's 1-1 draw with Sunderland at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Speaking to the club's website, manager Darren Ferguson said: “It is a big blow, the boy has been very consistent over the last two seasons, but we have to get on with it, these things happen in football.

“The boy did ever so well to finish the game against Sunderland, he was struggling and when you see the extent of the injury you can see why. He is going to be out between four and six weeks and I have now got to look at my options and one of those would be an emergency loan."

With seven games left and automatic promotion to the Championship at stake, Peterborough are just two points ahead of third-place Sunderland, who have a game in hand, and three points off leaders Hull who have played one more game than Posh.

Ferguson now has to decide whether to place his faith in back-up goalkeeper Daniel Gyollai or broker an emergency loan for a more experienced number one.

Since joining Posh in 2019/20, Pym has been a key player for Peterborough - totting up 30 clean sheets, more than any other League One goalkeeper.
