Celta de Vigo have sacked manager Rafa Benítez following last weekend's 4-0 defeat away to Real Madrid.
The former Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Everton manager took over at Celta at the start of the 2023/24 but has won just nine of his 33 games in charge.
Last weekend's heavy loss to leaders Real Madrid sees the Vigo club 17th in La Liga, just two points ahead of 18th-place Cádiz.
"Rafa Benítez and his coaching staff are leaving RC Celta after eight months of absolute commitment and full dedication but in which the team has not obtained the results expected by the club," said a statement on the Celta website.
"The club would like to express to Rafa Benitez and his assistants its most sincere gratitude for the involvement, honesty and professionalism they have shown since their arrival and the tireless work done. RC Celta would also like to wish them the best of luck and success in the future."
Celta next face two crucial games next against fellow relegation rivals Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano.
